Valastro was unable to dislodge his hand, so a metal rod slowly impaled his right hand three times between his ring and middle finger. While talking with People in November, Valastro confessed, “I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to ice a cake the same way or be as fast as I used to be. That’s still to be discovered, and not knowing kind of sucks.” The world of baking would not be the same without Valastro’s skill and charm, but he hopes he’ll get full function of his hand back. “They say this healing process could take up to nine months to a year because they reconnected nerves and stuff and you just don’t know how they’re going to grow,” he told E! Earlier on, Valastro was worried he may never regain use of his right hand, and may have to learn to use his left. “I can assure you and everybody—again, whether I have to do a left-handed, a 30 percent—I’m going to try to do it with all of my heart,” Valastro told ET in November. That optimism, and the support of his famiy and fans, seems to have carried Valastro through.
