In a statement released on Nov. 10, beloved wholesale supply retailer Costco announced that they would be beefing up their existing mask mandate so that everyone who enters the store must don a face mask or face shield except for children under the age of two. A previous policy that was put in place on May 4 had allowed those with medical conditions to be exempt. “If a member has a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask, they must wear a face shield at Costco,” the company’s president and CEO, Craig Jelinek, said in the statement. “This updated policy may seem inconvenient to some, however we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience. Our goal is to continue to provide a safe shopping environment for our members and guests, and to provide a safe work environment for our employees.” Costco also says that customers should practice social distancing while shopping at any of their locations. The retailer, which also holds special shopping hours for high-risk customers above the age of 60 at some locations, points out that any “members who are unable to wear a mask or face covering” can make use of delivery options available on their website.
